Question 1

Is a women's gold-plated watch made of real gold?

Accepted Answer

In the vast majority of cases, no: it is a stainless steel case covered with a gold plating, not solid gold which is reserved for fine jewellery. The plating can be electroplating or a far more durable PVD treatment. This ensures a lightweight, robust and hypoallergenic watch whilst delivering the warm look of gold.

Question 2

Does the gold on a watch fade over time?

Accepted Answer

This depends entirely on the plating technique. Thin flash plating wears on the edges and clasp after a few years of daily wear. A case treated with PVD gold retains its lustre much longer, as the metallic ions are anchored in the steel. Regular care slows wear in all cases.

Question 3

Yellow gold or rose gold: how do I choose?

Accepted Answer

Yellow gold is bold and luminous, ideal on matte and tanned skin, whilst rose gold, softer, flatters fair complexions. Think about matching the shade to your usual jewellery (wedding band, earrings) for visual harmony. The champagne tone is a discreet alternative for those who find yellow gold too strong.

Question 4

How do I care for a gold-plated watch?

Accepted Answer

Wipe the case with a soft microfibre cloth after each wear to remove sweat and dust. Avoid contact with perfumes, hairspray, creams and chlorinated water, which damage the gold plating. Store the watch in a dry place in its box and remove it before showering or swimming to preserve its shine long-term.

Question 5

Which gold-plated watch should I give as a gift?

Accepted Answer

For a gift that lasts, choose a model with PVD gold treatment, a guarantee of durability. A Milanese mesh or fine link strap suits most wrists and adjusts easily. All our watches are authentic, delivered in their original box with a 2-year warranty and returns accepted within 14 days, a reassuring package for gift-giving.
