The men's stainless steel watch: the standard that won
If a single configuration were to sum up modern men's watchmaking, it would be the men's stainless steel watch: stainless steel case and steel bracelet, the duo that supplanted leather in the 1970s with the advent of sport-chic. The reason is as practical as it is aesthetic: steel fears neither water, nor perspiration, nor time. A men's steel watch can be worn 365 days a year without special care, something no leather strap allows.
Our outlet collection brings together every authentic men's steel watch from Hugo Boss, Festina, Lotus, Maserati and Tommy Hilfiger, from elegant three-hand to sporty chronograph: the spirit of luxury men's steel watch, at outlet prices.
316L, solid links, thickness: reading the quality of a steel bracelet
The watchmaking standard is stainless steel 316L, known as surgical steel: its molybdenum content makes it corrosion-resistant and hypoallergenic. The real hierarchy then plays out in the links: solid links, machined from the solid, give a heavy, silent and durable bracelet; folded links, stamped sheet metal, are lighter, noisier and stretch over the years. The test is immediate: weigh it. On a quality men's steel watch bracelet, the metal has weight and bends without clicking; this is what distinguishes a true men's steel watch from a light imitation.
One last marker: link screws (lasting adjustment at the watchmaker) are better than friction pins on budget bracelets.
Links or Milanese mesh: two steels, two styles
The classic men's steel bracelet watch with three-row links is the uniform of everyday wear: robust, authoritative, sport-chic. Its elegant alternative is Milanese mesh, a flexible steel weave inherited from the 1960s, slimmer under a shirt cuff and adjustable to the millimetre: our men's Milanese mesh watch collection is dedicated to it. Between the two, fine five-row links play the dressy without fragility.
On the colour side, bare silver steel dominates (see also our men's silver watch page), followed by two-tone and black PVD steel for the contemporary register.
Adjusting and maintaining a steel bracelet
A link bracelet is adjusted by removing links (pins or screws): allow one finger's play between bracelet and wrist, the watch should pivot slightly without slipping on the hand. Maintenance is minimal: soapy water and soft brush between the links twice a year, microfibre cloth daily. A scratch on bare steel polishes out; it is the only bracelet that can be maintained indefinitely. Every watch is authentic, delivered in its original box with 2-year warranty and returns accepted within 14 days.
