Question 1

What is the difference between silicone and rubber?

Accepted Answer

Rubber is a natural material derived from the rubber tree, denser and more elastic, whilst silicone is a synthetic polymer. Silicone resists UV and heat better, retains its flexibility longer and comes in more colours. Rubber remains appreciated on diving watches for its premium feel, but it can harden over the years.

Question 2

Does the silicone strap resist water and sport?

Accepted Answer

Yes, silicone is completely water-resistant and does not degrade when in contact with water, chlorine or sweat. It remains stable during exercise and does not absorb odours. However, ensure that the case displays sufficient water resistance: 5 ATM for showering and swimming, 10 ATM or above for diving.

Question 3

How do I clean a silicone strap?

Accepted Answer

A simple rinse with lukewarm water removes dust, sand and perspiration after each sporting activity. For a deeper clean, use a little mild soap and a soft brush, then dry with a cloth. Avoid alcohol or solvents, which can alter the finish and accentuate the sticky effect.

Question 4

Does silicone cause allergies?

Accepted Answer

Silicone is hypoallergenic and contains neither latex nor nickel, two common causes of skin irritation. Its non-porous surface limits bacterial growth and prolonged contact with sweat. It is often the best option for sensitive skin that reacts to tanned leather or metal alloys.

Question 5

Can I replace a silicone strap?

Accepted Answer

Yes, most watches use standard spring bars, which makes replacement quick with a simple pin tool. Measure the lug width (typically 20 or 22 mm) to choose a compatible strap. You can thus alternate between silicone, leather or steel depending on your occasions without changing watches.
