History & brand DNA
Maserati was founded in 1914 in Bologna by the Maserati brothers, before establishing itself permanently in Modena, the heartland of prestigious Italian manufacturers. The automotive brand earned its credentials through competition, with victories at Indianapolis and in Formula 1 during the 1930s-1950s. The Maserati watch collection was launched in 2006 under official licence, manufactured by Sector Group / Morellato (an Italian group specialising in watches and jewellery). Designs are overseen by Maserati studios in Modena to ensure consistency with automotive DNA: the trident, signature Maserati blue, and references to instrument clusters.
Iconic models
The Maserati watch range divides into two complementary universes with models featured on the men's and women's pages. In terms of finish and materials, there are: full brushed steel versions (versatile office-to-evening look), bicolour steel-blue PVD (which embrace Maserati automotive codes), structured rubber versions (inspired by aluminium wheel rims) and rare full black PVD finishes (premium stealth look). In terms of size: the majority are 42-46 mm for men, with a few 44 mm unisex models. The generous diameter is intentional, as Maserati does not offer cases smaller than 40 mm.
What we check before dispatch
On an authentic Maserati: the Maserati trident must be present on the crown in deep engraving and on the dial at 12 o'clock, perfectly aligned without burrs. The reference begins with R88 plus 8 digits and appears on the caseback with the inscription 'Maserati Officina Originale Italian Style'. The signature Maserati blue (on dial or hands) must be a deep blue with slight metallic sheen, not a flat blue or one that turns black. On skeleton automatics (Traguardo, Ingegno), the balance wheel should oscillate freely. On rubber bracelets, check the flexibility, as rigid or sticky rubber indicates poor storage.
Why buy at outlet prices?
Maserati outlet watches range from 150 to 450 EUR (versus 300-900 EUR in boutiques). It's the best purchase for the Italian automotive enthusiast who wants to wear the trident on their wrist without the Ferrari or Porsche Design price tag. Skeleton automatic models (Traguardo, Ingegno) offer genuine mechanics at an accessible price. For everyday wear, the classic 42 mm steel models are versatile for office and weekend.
