Question 1

From what size is a watch considered an oversized women's watch?

Accepted Answer

We use 40 mm in diameter and above. The median diameter across all our women's watches is 36 mm: at 40 mm, the difference is immediately visible on the wrist, and the case is also thicker.

Question 2

Is a large-dial women's watch suitable for a slim wrist?

Accepted Answer

Yes, provided the lugs do not overhang the wrist. Choose a fairly flat 40 mm model, with a steel bracelet fitted as closely as possible. Beyond 42 mm, the watch often overhangs a slim wrist: the effect is intended, but it has to be embraced.

Question 3

Can you swim with a large-dial women's watch?

Accepted Answer

Only if it is water-resistant to 10 ATM, which applies to nearly one large watch in four in our selection. At 5 ATM, limit yourself to occasional showers; at 3 ATM, to rain and handwashing. Always keep the crown pushed in, and avoid hot water.

Question 4

How do you adjust the steel bracelet of a large watch?

Accepted Answer

Most close with a deployment clasp and are shortened by removing links. A watchmaker can do it in a few minutes. Keep the removed links: they will be useful if you resell or give the watch away.

Question 5

Are oversized women's watches heavier?

Accepted Answer

A little, since they are wider and thicker, and most often come on a steel bracelet. The difference is mostly noticed on the first day. If the weight bothers you, a silicone strap noticeably lightens the whole watch.
