The women's red watch, a touch of colour on the wrist
A red women's watch catches the eye, and that is exactly why it gets chosen. Here, the red comes from the dial: it may be paired with a red, gold or silver strap, but the dial sets the tone. The women's red watch remains a rare colour in our range, where silver, white, black and gold dials make up the great majority. Our red women's watches come from Vivienne Westwood, Swarovski, Guess, Lacoste, Versace, Marc Jacobs, D1 Milano, Swatch, Citizen and Michael Kors, all brand new and covered by a 2-year warranty.
What the red dial reveals, measured across our range
We compared red-dial watches with our full range of women's watches. First difference: the date is rare. It appears on only one red watch in ten, compared with one in four elsewhere, that is two and a half times less often. Red calls for a clear dial, free of a window that breaks it up.
Second difference, water resistance: nearly two red watches in three are 5 ATM, compared with one in two of our women's watches overall, but none reaches 10 ATM. The rest are 3 ATM. Finally, almost one watch in three carries the red through to the strap, tone on tone, for the boldest version. The median diameter, 36.5 mm, is however the same as for the whole range: a red watch is no bigger than any other, it simply gets noticed more.
Red or pink: two colours, two intentions
The two are often confused, wrongly. Red is a bold, assertive colour: it works like a red lipstick, as a single accent on a simple outfit in black, white, navy or camel. Pink, from powdery to fuchsia, is softer and more romantic. If it is that gentleness you are after, our women's pink watch page is dedicated to it.
Style varies considerably from one brand to another. Swarovski Octea and Crystalline play on crystal, Vivienne Westwood Charlton offers offbeat chic, Guess Ruby has a jewellery-like shape, Marc Jacobs Amy brings fun, and D1 Milano Ultra Thin stands for slimness. Some models feature stone or crystal indexes that catch the light against the red background.
Gold, rose gold or steel: which metal
Red pairs naturally with warm metals. In our selection, the strap is rose gold or gold on two watches in five, and the case follows the same trend. It is the most elegant combination: gold softens the red and makes it dressier. For this family of shades, see also our women's gold watch selection.
The silver steel and two-tone options give a more modern, graphic version. Leather, found on one watch in five, and silicone, rarer, suit a more casual use. And for a matching gift, discover our men's red watch.
