Thomas Burberry founded his house in Basingstoke in 1856 and invented gabardine in 1879, a waterproof fabric that equipped polar explorers and officers. The check pattern (beige, black, red and white tartan) became a global signature in the 1960s. The watch line, developed under licence with Fossil Group, transposes this British heritage into urban watches.
