Citizen Watch Co., a Japanese company founded in Tokyo in 1918 as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute. It describes itself as a true manufacture, from component development to final assembly, and also supplies movements to other watchmakers under the Miyota brand.

Yes. The Tsuyosa uses the Citizen 8210 automatic calibre, which winds from the movement of the wrist. Citizen gives it a power reserve of about 42 hours. The Tsuyosa Small Second uses the 8322 calibre, with a 60-hour power reserve. The transparent caseback lets you see the movement.

Yes, in calm water: Citizen rates it water-resistant to 50 metres (5 bar), suitable for bathing and swimming, but not for diving. Our 43 mm sport automatics are listed at 100 metres on our product sheets. Never operate the crown underwater.

The two letters and four digits identify the model: NJ0150, NJ0151 or NJ0158 for the Tsuyosa, NK5010 for the Small Second. After the hyphen, on our product sheets, a first digit of 0 or 1 indicates a leather or silicone strap, while 5 or 8 indicates a metal bracelet. The final letter E denotes a black dial, A white, L blue and H grey. So an NJ0150-81E is a Tsuyosa on a steel bracelet with a black dial.

Eco-Drive, the technology that built Citizen's reputation, is a quartz movement recharged by light, with no battery to replace. An automatic is a mechanical movement wound by the motions of the wrist, which stops if it isn't worn for more than about two days. Our Citizen selection is now almost entirely automatic, centred on the Tsuyosa.
