It all began at 430 King's Road, London: in October 1971, Vivienne Westwood designed the clothing for Let It Rock, the shop opened by Malcolm McLaren, which became SEX in 1974, then Seditionaries and World's End: the birthplace of British punk. Her emblem, the orb, first appeared as a pendant at the Harris Tweed autumn-winter 1987-1988 show: a royal globe topped with a cross and encircled by a ring inspired by Saturn, to bring tradition into the future. Made a Dame in 2006, the designer died on 29 December 2022 in Clapham, south London, and the house has carried on her work. The watches come from a worldwide licence granted to Zeon, a subsidiary of the Herald group, to design, market and distribute them: the agreement was announced in 2010 and the first models were presented at Baselworld in 2011. Most lines are named after a London district or street (Sydenham, Camberwell, Fenchurch, Hoxton, Soho), and the Sydenham dial carries the designer's motto: “Buy less, choose well, make it last”.

Iconic models

Three lines drive our sales. The Lady Sydenham is our most requested Vivienne Westwood, especially in gold-tone steel with a fuchsia dial (VV251RRGD): a 39 mm case, guilloché dial marked “Time Machine” and the designer's motto. The Fenchurch comes close behind, thanks to its steel version with a powder pink dial (VV292PKSL), a small 28 mm case with date window. Then comes the Wallace family, from the gold-tone Wallace with a damask emerald green dial (VV208GDGD) to the 32 mm Little Wallace, with a set bezel and glacier blue dial (VV327LBLSL). The Orb remains the most recognisable: ball-shaped lugs, a large gold-tone orb drawn across the black dial and an orb charm hanging from a chain (VV006BKGD). Charterhouse, Camberwell and Little Camberwell complete the selection, and for men there is the black-dial Sydenham (VV251BKSL).

What we check before dispatch

The range is mostly petite: most of our women's models measure 28 to 34 mm, and these small cases (Fenchurch, Little Camberwell, Little Wallace, Orb) sell just as well as the larger ones. The 39 mm Lady Sydenham is the exception that sells. In terms of metal, steel and then gold-tone account for most of our sales, two-tone follows, and rose gold remains a quiet seller. The dial makes the difference: pink and fuchsia sell fastest, ahead of champagne gold and green, while silver dials, which are well represented in our stock, sell slowly. All our Vivienne Westwood watches are quartz, and the large majority are water resistant to 50 m (5 ATM). Steel bracelets clearly outsell leather. On our product pages, the last two letters of the reference most often indicate the case colour: GD for gold-tone, SL for steel, SG for yellow gold two-tone and SR for rose gold two-tone. On several recent lines (Fenchurch, Little Camberwell, Charterhouse), the words “Swiss Movement” are printed below the logo.

+Are there Vivienne Westwood watches for men?

Yes, but there are few: the house mainly designs for women. We offer the Sydenham with a black dial, on a steel bracelet or black perforated leather strap, as well as the Eltham, Cadogan and Bank, measuring 35 to 40 mm.

+Are Vivienne Westwood watches waterproof?

The large majority of our models are water resistant to 50 m (5 ATM): they withstand rain, splashes and washing hands, but not swimming. A few more dressy models are rated to 30 m, and the pearl-bead bracelet watches should be kept away from water.
