The Fossil men's leather watch, the icon of the brand
At Fossil, leather is not just one option among others: it is fitted to roughly one men's watch in two in our Fossil catalogue, a little more than steel. A Fossil men's leather watch brings together what the brand does best: a generous case, a legible dial and a strap that develops a patina over time. The Fossil Machine, Grant, Neutra, Bronson, Nate and The Commuter collections make up most of this selection, all brand new and covered by a 2-year warranty. Choosing a Fossil men's leather watch also means choosing a strap you can change: we come back to this below.
What leather changes at Fossil, measured across our catalogue
We compared every Fossil men's leather watch in the selection with all of our Fossil men's watches. Brown clearly dominates: it colours more than one strap in two, roughly twice as often as in the rest of the range. The pin buckle, the classic buckle with a pin, is fitted to nearly two watches in three, compared with a little more than one in three for the whole range. Roman numerals are also more common, on about one watch in five compared with one in seven, as is the sporty style.
The rest does not change, and that is information in itself. The chronograph concerns one watch in three in both cases, and the date about two in five. The median diameter remains 44 mm and the thickness 12 mm. A Fossil men's leather watch is therefore not a lighter version: it is the same watch, with a different strap. Our Fossil men's watch page presents the whole range, steel included.
Fossil men's leather watch strap: width and replacement
The median strap width is 22 mm, which is the measurement for at least half of the models in the selection. This measurement, taken between the lugs of the case, is the only one that matters for a replacement: a Fossil men's leather watch strap of 22 mm will fit a case designed for 22 mm, whatever the collection. Check it on the product page before ordering.
A Fossil men's watch with a leather strap is generally attached by two spring bars, which a small tool or a watchmaker removes in a few seconds. Changing the leather means changing the watch: a brown one for the week, a black one for the evening. To compare with other brands, see our men's leather strap watch selection.
Caring for a Fossil men's leather watch
Leather suffers from water and sweat far more than the case does. Nearly nine watches in ten in the selection are water-resistant to 5 ATM: an occasional shower is fine for the case, but not for the strap, which stains and hardens. Even the 10 ATM models, about one in eight, should not go to the swimming pool with a leather strap. If the watch gets wet, let the strap dry in the open air, away from a radiator.
To make a Fossil men's watch with a leather strap last, do not fasten the strap on the last hole, alternate if possible with another watch, and occasionally apply a conditioner for smooth leather. Black forgives marks better than light brown: our black Fossil men's watch page brings together several. Finally, about one watch in ten in the selection is automatic: find them in Fossil automatic men's watch.
