The Fossil Everett FS5821, three hands on a black dial
The Fossil Everett FS5821 has a dressy look, with its understated black dial and its slim 42 mm case in stainless steel. Its three-hand quartz movement with date favours elegance and discretion. Unlike the 44 mm chronographs in the Grant and Neutra lines, the Everett has a smaller diameter and displays only the time.
This design choice makes the FS5821 easy to slip under a shirt cuff, where a thicker chronograph catches on the fabric. The matt black dial contrasts with clear indexes and hands, for an immediate reading. The slimness of the case, made possible by the absence of a chronograph movement train, makes it a dress watch you forget you are wearing throughout the day.
- Black dial with slim indexes, clean and high-contrast reading
- 42 mm case in stainless steel, slim and discreet profile
- Steel bracelet with adjustable links, deployant clasp
- 50 M (5 ATM) water resistance and mineral glass resistant to micro-scratches
- Discreet date window integrated into the dial
Three hands and date: simple and efficient
The FS5821 features a three-hand display plus date, with no superfluous subdials. Without a chronograph complication, the case can be slimmer than a 44 mm chrono such as the Grant, so the Everett slips easily under a shirt cuff. The date window remains easy to read at a glance.
The luminescent hands stay legible in low light, a valuable asset for a dress watch worn from morning to evening. A sober display that gets to the essentials, ideal for those who prefer restraint to a profusion of subdials. The quartz movement provides reliable timekeeping without winding, which simplifies everyday use.
- Central hours, minutes and seconds, immediate reading
- Date via discreet window, quick setting with the crown
- Analogue display, clean and without superfluous subdials
- Slim hands matching the applied indexes
A slim profile suited to all wrists
With its 42 mm diameter and slim profile, the Everett suits wrists from 16.5 cm in circumference, whereas a 44 mm chronograph generally requires around 17 cm. The black dial coordinates with all outfits, from suit to jeans, and works as well with a silver buckle as with a dark leather strap.
The steel bracelet can be shortened by removing links for a tailored fit, from the office to the evening out, without ever looking bulky under the sleeve. On a slim wrist, the compact 42 mm diameter and the low case thickness ensure a centred and comfortable fit. The sobriety of the black dial further reduces the visual presence of the watch.
Caring for a black dial and steel bracelet
Clean the steel bracelet with a damp microfibre cloth, then dry it carefully, paying particular attention between the links where dust and residue collect. The 5 ATM rating allows rain and hand washing, but never hot showers or swimming: heat expands the seals, and dynamic pressure exceeds the static value tested.
Store the watch carefully, flat and away from magnets, to protect the mineral glass and black dial from micro-scratches. Have the water resistance checked at each battery change to maintain its performance. Replace the battery as soon as the movement stops to prevent any electrolyte leakage. Remove the watch before applying perfume or cream to keep the steel polish longer.
For the bracelet adjustment, entrust link removal to a workshop so as not to scratch the polished surfaces. A successful fit lets one finger pass between the bracelet and the wrist: not so tight that it marks the skin, nor so loose that the case slides around. On a slim wrist, this care ensures a centred and discreet fit under the sleeve throughout the day.
