Men's and women's watch boxes: choosing by actual capacity

Whether it's a men's watch box or a women's case, the right question isn't "how many watches do I have", but "how many will I have in two years". Watch box in wood, leather or carbon: how material makes the difference

A wooden watch box (Ravello walnut, Milan solid wood, Gandi stained wood) weighs 2 to 3 times more than a soft case: 1.5 kg for the Milan 6-compartment against 600 g for the zipped Voyager case of the same capacity. This weight reflects a rigid structure and a glass cover that protects from direct impact and dust whilst displaying the dials.

Automatic watch box: storage or winder?

Useful clarification: the "automatic watch box" doesn't really exist as such, a box is passive; only the winder is motorised. A standard box suits an automatic watch worn regularly perfectly: it stops at rest, and three turns of the crown restart it. The automatic watch winder becomes useful only for complicated pieces (date, moon phase) you don't want to reset, or for rotating several automatics.
