What our skull watches look like
A branded skull watch can be recognised by how the skull is built. On the The Skull by Philipp Plein, the skull is raised and faceted like a cut stone, topped with a small hexagonal PP plate, set in a dial embossed with tiny hexagons. The wide bezel reads PHILIPP PLEIN at the top and THE $KULL at the bottom, between four panels of pyramid studs, and a second skull is stamped on the strap, just below the case. It comes in gold on black, all black, rose gold skull on gunmetal, or a set gold dial. At Diesel, the Mega Chief Skull Rainbow prints an iridescent skull with rainbow reflections across the whole black dial of its 51 mm case, while the Griffed has a skull with turquoise-blue reflections on a black 48 mm dial.
How to wear a skull watch
It depends on the look you want. In black on black, the skull only reveals itself when light catches its facets. This is the easiest version to wear every day, with raw denim, a leather jacket or a dark knit. In gold on black or with the iridescent skull, the watch becomes the centrepiece of the outfit: keep the rest simple and match your jewellery to its metal, a gold signet ring with the gold The Skull, or blackened steel with the Diesel.
