About

Elena Sicard is a historian of industry, specialising in European watch design of the twentieth century. She holds a doctorate in the history of applied art from the University of Strasbourg and has published three works on the evolution of Swiss, French and German manufactures. She teaches part-time at Sciences Po Strasbourg.

On our editorial team, Elena places each collection within the lineage of its brand, explains the heritage of each model family, and deciphers design choices as one reads a text. Her historical knowledge enables illuminating parallels between vintage pieces re-emerging today and their ancestors from the 1950s to 1980s.

She covers re-editions, iconic models, brand anniversaries and in-depth features on manufactures. Her academic rigour and pedagogical passion make her an authoritative voice to which our readers turn when seeking to understand the history behind a watch they covet.
